Have you ever imagined a world without law? Law has been in existence since the beginning and has continued to evolve until now. The law is implemented mainly to provide peace and order in a society. In ancient times, those who do not abide by the law suffer unethical consequences like chopping their heads, cutting off one finger, or burning them at the stake. Today, laws are carefully studied and are modified to give a more fair and humane punishment.

Nowadays, there are many laws in different sectors or categories. They are classified according to what aspect of the society it concerns like civil law, marriage laws, common law contract, and many more. So how important is the law? Here, are some reasons:

1. Maintain the status quo

In a society, it is important to maintain the status quo. There is always a flow in the society, and every person in it has different functions and responsibilities. If the status quo is not maintained there would be chaos. People could do what they want and deviate or would not care about their responsibilities in the society. The society is like our body, which is made up of different organs, imagine if the lungs doesn’t function or performs the task of the heart. Do you think that body would survive?

2. Protect property

Protecting our property would never have been easy if laws were not implemented. People could just take whatever they want to have even if it’s yours. When this happens, people would take advantage of other people, and there would be slaves because their properties were taken from them.

3. Protect vested rights

Today, there are different rights given to every individual. Like children have the right to proper education. The elderly also have rights of their own especially the veterans. These rights are very beneficial and are also very important. If these rights aren’t protected, a lot of kids would just be forced to work, and the elderly would suffer instead of enjoying their benefits.

4. Protect established relationships

The law also establishes relationships and it could also break them. Married people should abide by the law since there would be a lot of responsibilities in a married couple’s life. The laws include their responsibilities toward their children and to the society. Without the law, many parents would abuse their kids and the society would rapidly be overpopulated. The law could also break relationships that don’t work out. Most of the time this is done to fixed conflicts between couples without neglecting their responsibilities to their children. There are a lot of married women today who suffers from domestic abuse, and without the law, most of them would end up living a miserable life or in worst cases would end up dead.

For a society to be very productive, laws should be implemented, and people should follow these laws. Without the law, people would be very abusive a lot of crimes would happen because they know that they won’t be punished for any wrong doings they commit. At the same time, the law is created by individuals in position, and they have the power to abuse it.
